Treasure Valley Roller Derby is Boise Idaho’s first and only WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) league! We play teams from all over the United States (and Canada, too!). TVRD skaters and officials volunteer their time and talents to make this organization run. TVRD is committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for all individuals.

Meet #951 Sinister Kate! 💪 Why roller derby? "I joined because I didn't really know anyone after moving here. My little sister started to play derby in SoCal in 2010, so I went to a practice and was instantly in love. I looked up to see if Boise had a league, and that's when I found TVR. It's been love ever since. Roller derby helps to keep me sane. People tend to say that roller derby saved their souls, which is what it did for me. I am stronger mentally and physically. Practice days help me feel alive and forget any current anxieties. Learning different strategies while being competitive is when I truly thrive." 🚗 Why away bouts? "The away bouts are essential because that is where the team truly bonds. Sleeping in the same beds and sharing 10-plus-hour car rides, common bonds, you tend to learn about each other on a deeper level. This is exactly why I wanted to join the league: to build lifelong friendships." 🌿 Fun fact? "I have a plant obsession. It could be indoor plants or a giant garden. I love all things that grow; plants make me happy." 🎸 Derby name origin? "I chose it after I was drafted into the league; I couldn't decide a derby name for the life of me. But I was really into Avenged Sevenfold then, and they have one of the best guitarists in the world, Synyster Gates. So, Sinister Kate was chosen. My number, 951, is the area code where I was born and raised." Meet #101 LuLu Kapowski 🤩 LuLu joined derby after meeting a beautiful lady who still had all her teeth who played roller derby. “I was shocked! All I knew at the time of RD was the farcical bouts of the 1970s and 80s. My first practice hooked me, even though it took me many more practices in order to actually stop and start on those skates like I needed to. TBH I’m still working on those stops!” Lulu is a blocker with Treasure Valley Roller Derby. “My favorite thing to do is use my superpower of being underestimated. That way I can sneakily get in the way of the opposing blockers, making a hole for our jammer to get through and collect those points. (See photo)” LuLu picked her name and number in homage to her family’s naval service, hometown, and background in education. “Through a mix of Luis which is a family name, an uncle who was a naval aviation ordnanceman (and the first Medal of Honor recipient from WWII), HWY 101 that travels through my hometown, and the years I spent in early education, I happened upon the “LuLu”, aka MK101, the name of a nuclear depth charge that was decommissioned due to its instability.” However it was that LuLu landed with us, we’ve been so happy to have her. Meet #1959 Demolition Barbie 🛼🩷 As a young homeschooled girl who'd never played any sport whatsoever, Barbie took a step out of her comfort zone and decided to go check out a bout. “I loved it from the first moment, and something about it actually moved me…They were aggressive, joyful, unrestrained - I hadn't seen anything quite like that before and I wanted so badly to experience that freedom.” Barbie started with Treasure Valley Roller Derby in 2010. Since then, she’s found some of her best friends here. “It shaped who I am as a person. I discovered roller derby at a really vulnerable time in my life and WOW did I learn I have so much strength.” When asked why travel bouts are so important, Barbie points out, “Being away from home, outside your comfort zone, playing challenging teams - this is where we strengthen and deepen our relationships with our teammates both on and off the track. We look out for one another, we build trust, and we laugh so much our bellies hurt. My hope is that every skater gets to experience traveling with their team, making special memories and inside jokes and expanding their skillset.” Help send Barbie, and all league members, to our away games this season!
